Pet Policy

Vietnam Airlines only accepts domestic dogs and cats as pets on board. Pets are not acceptable in the cabin, but they can travel as checked baggage in the hold section of the aircraft, where they will be in a temperature-controlled environment. The carrier must be an approved cargo crate with a maximum weight of 75 kg.

To make reservations in advance, passengers checking pets must contact Vietnam Airlines  .  The service request must be received a minimum of 24 hours before the time of departure.  Reservations made in advance for passengers bringing pets on the plane can contact Vietnam Airlines’ branch offices.  It is necessary to make the service request at least 24 hour earlier the scheduled departure time.  On Vietnam Airlines, only domestic dogs and cats are permitted.  According to Vietnam Airlines’ regulation, the following dog breeds are not allowed: Tibetan Dog Pit Bull, Japanese Pug, French Bulldog, Boston Terrier, Fila Brasileiro, Affenpinscher, Tosa, and their mix breeds The following breeds of cats are included in the list: English Toy Spaniel Lhasa Apso, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Shar Pei, American Bulldog, Japanese Chin, Rottweiler and its mixed breeds, Mastiff (all breeds), Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Brussels Griffin, Chow Chow Spaniel, Bulldog, Dogo Argentino, Pekingese, Chinese Pug, American Staffordshire Terrier and Japan Spaniel (Chin), Shih Tzu, English Bulldog, American Pit Bull Terrrier, Pug, and the remaining cat breeds: Burmese, Himalayan, Persian, and Exotic.  Other dogs that are or are acting aggressively will not be permitted.  Pets should be at least ten weeks older or older.  There should be enough space inside the container for your pet to rotate around, lie down, sit, and get up.  The dimensions must not exceed 35cm by 30 centimeters by 20 centimeters.  The container must be made from sturdy plywood, welded steel mesh, fiberglass, metal, or rigid plastics.  Anybody wants to check the validity of any required documentation, such as permits for import/export and health certificates, quarantine certifications, and rabies vaccination records, must contact the appropriate quarantine office or consulate, as well as the embassy.
